Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2009, 57(5), 205-212 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200957050205
Nowadays wood modification is very-discussed and its importance is growing up. Wood plasticization alias a temporary change of wood properties makes subsequent processing possible. Plasticization is very suitable for subsequent mechanical compressing of wood. Instead steaming and boiling there is a microwave heating for wood plasticization. This kind of heating cuts down the time of plasticization from hours to seconds and also reduces energy consumption.Pressing of wood perpendicular to the gain in radial direction causes change of wood structure, increases wood density and due to this the wood has increased mechanical properties as bending strength...

The energy balance gives an overview about necessary amount of energy for city buses in pure city operation. The operation of city buses is divided for this analysis into three basic modes: stop state, drive and deceleration. The fleet of the same 19 city buses was chosen for collection of all operation data. These city buses are located in one city. The buses were changing all bus routes and were driven by all bus drivers. These conditions are necessary for elimination of bus route topology and bus driver behaviour....

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2009, 57(5), 243-250 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200957050243
Natural resistance to Plum pox virus (PPV), the agent of sharka disease, is one of the most important traits of interest to stone fruit breeders, although few sources of resistance have been identified. One of the few apricot cultivars which does show resistance, 'Harlayne', was chosen for a study of the genetics of PPV resistance. It was crossed with three different cultivars, two susceptible ('Vestar' and 'Strepet') and one immune ('Orangered'). Four different lines (since there was one reciprocal combination) were established and the F1 crosses were subsequently inoculated with the PPV-M and PPV-D strains by grafting infected buds. A woody...

A restoration ecology is a branch and also possible approach to the protections of both nature and landscape which completes the conservative trends (conservation biology). An ecological restoration is a practical application of this branch which can be used in the restoration of ecosystems, coenoses, populations or sites disturbed or damaged by human impact. An ecological restoration offers the interesting alternatives to technical reclamations of the localities disturbed by mining. It exploits the natural processes (mainly controlled and spontaneous successions) respecting the development of coenoses adequate to the locality. The degree of man...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2009, 57(5), 263-270 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200957050263
The effect of spray liquid leaves coverage on efficacy of herbicides was investigated. Five nozzles sizes were used to reach different percentage coverage. The effect of leaves coverage on Elytrigia repens (L.) Desv. was evaluated using systemic herbicide (clethodim 240 g/l + surfactant) and the effect of leaves coverage on Chenopodium album L. and Galium aparine L. was evaluated using contact herbicides (bentazone 600 g/l and the mixture of bentazone 480 g/l + activator 150 g/l). No significant differences of the efficacy were observed between different percentages of leaves coverage in case of systemic herbicides. Vice versa...

Melting of snow in winter and early spring often causes soil erosion. The results of erosion studies show that the runoff generated in the cold period can cause more intensive erosion than in the warm half year. By analysis of the monthly catchment of suspended sediments, it was found maximum of suspended sediments in the spring likely as effect of the spring melting of snow. Erosion caused by water from melting snow in our conditions does not reach the same intensity as the erosion caused by torrential rainfall. However, the torrential rainfall has only a local character, while the spring melting of snow usually affects larger territory. Erosive potential...

Directing and concentrating structures are used mainly on water coursers with unstable channel and major sediment transport or in areas with major bank erosion. The main purpose of these structures is to redirect water flow from the stressed and very often eroded bank to the centre of the channel or other parts of the channel, where the water flow may be used e.g. for dispersion of unsuitable deposit before its eventual stabilization by natural succession.Another important goal is to achieve a desired change of the stream channel by using the transporting power of the water flow and targeted depositing of sediment. In the area of the deflecting...

The majority of Internet users use the global network to search for different information using fulltext search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, or Seznam. The web presentation operators are trying, with the help of different optimization techniques, to get to the top places in the results of fulltext search engines. Right there is a great importance of Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing, because normal users usually try links only on the first few pages of the fulltext search engines results on certain keywords and in catalogs they use primarily hierarchically higher placed links in each category. Key to success is the application...

Nowadays, we can see on market mainly fermented milk products with addition of probiotic microorganisms, especially strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. We can meet also other types of probiotic products. It is recommended to consume at least 100 grams of fermented milk products with minimal concentration of 106 of probiotics in one gram or mililitr of product daily for reaching positive effect on men's health. During fermentation of the carbohydrates, proteins and lipids are disunite and many of aromatic compounds ane compose. They give a typical sensory characteristic to fermented milk products. For quality and quantity...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2009, 57(5), 305-312 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200957050305
The objective of this work was to induce in vitro shoot regeneration as influenced by plant growth regulators and ascertain an effective method of polyploidy induction using colchicine and oryzalin in two diploid cultivars 'Gizela' and 'Black Velvet Scarlet F1' of Pelargonium × hortorum L. H. Bailey. In both cultivars, benzyladenine (BA) significantly improved shoot regeneration compared to zeatin. The infiltration and the dip methods of explant treatment were used for polyploidy induction. Regenerants were analyzed using the flow cytometry (FCM). In 'Gizela' and 'Black Velvet Scarlet F1', 10 tetraploids on the level...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2009, 57(5), 313-318 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200957050313
For qualitative and semi-quantitative detection of genetically modified crops we selected the detection of the frequently used promoter 35S CaMV. To optimise the method we used two commercially available genotypes of maize from the company Monsanto (USA), i.e. the transgenic hybrid Bt-maize line MON810 and a genetically non-modified control (isogenic line to MON810). We tested the primers and PCR programmes described by Greiner et al. (2005) and Hernandéz et al. (2005). When applying PCR methods of detection of Bt-maize the first step was to optimise the protocol for the detection of the maize genome and detection of the specific sites of genetically...
