The species spectrum and abundance of moths were monitored in a greenhouse in Kameničany (western Slovakia) in 2020, in which Solanum lycopersicum was grown from seedlings imported from the Netherlands. Moths were caught using light traps placed at different sites in two sections of the greenhouse, a part with continuous cultivation and a part with culture restoration during research. Captures were taken during June, October and November. A total of 836 individuals of 87 species from 14 families were recorded. Of the moths captured, 12 species (99 individuals) were saprophagous, 45 species (624 individuals) were specialists not developing on Solanaceae,...

Effects of Two Herbicides on Strawberry Plants

Miroslava Soukupová, Martin Koudela

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2024, 72(1-2), 15-23

Herbicide substances aminopyralid and pyroxsulam are used to control broadleaf weeds in cereals. Disadvantage of this herbicides is fact, that their residues remain not only in the soil, but are also translocated to the plant tissues of the treated crops. Herbicide residues released from straw used like mulch by the way of decomposition and leaching can damage strawberry. In this study the response of strawberry plants to aminopyralid at doses of 3.75, 7.5 and 15 g/ha and pyroxsulam at dose 3, 15 and 30 g/ha was evaluated. With the increased concentration of both herbicides, plants injury also increased. A reduction in fruit yield was noted with both...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2024, 72(1-2), 25-39

Implications of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and optimized Piper nigrum (White and Black Pepper) aqueous extracts (WPAE and BPAE) incorporation on fatty acid profile and physico-chemical indices of pork subjected to refrigeration storage was investigated. To produce optimized Piper nigrum aqueous extracts, desirability values of WPAE and BPAE were upscaled from 60 and 62% to 71 and 97% respectively using Design Expert12, resulting in the yield of 65 and 87 bio-compounds. Fresh pork (100 g) was apportioned to four treatment groups (each replicated four times), comprising the Control (0% antioxidant); BHT (100 mg of BHT); BPAE (100 ml of...

Three new Carex nothospecies (Cyperaceae) discovered in the Czech Republic

Radomír Řepka

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2024, 72(1-2), 41-50

The article presents three newly discovered interspecific hybrids of sedges found in the Czech Republic. The finds of two of them (Carex ×helenae and C. ×ploegii) are the result of authors' field work and subsequent revision of specimens in large institutional Czech herbaria, while the third, C. ×alluvialis, was documented by a herbarium specimen in the BRNU herbarium, collected in 1998. The finds of these wetland hybrid sedges are a supplement to the treatment of the genus Carex for the Flora of the Czech Republic, Vol. 9. For each of the hybrids, a detailed morphological description compiled on the basis of Czech plants is given and the location...
