Stanislav Hejduk, Radek Macháč

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 915-923 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967040915

Italian, annual and perennial ryegrasses are the most important grass species cultivated for seed production in the Czech Republic. The straw remaining after seeds threshing can be used as low quality forage, bedding material or as soil amendment. However, there are no comprehensive information concerning grass straw yields and quality in central Europe. The aim of this study was to investigate the Italian (IR) and perennial (PR) ryegrass straw yield and quality. These parameters were measured for two harvest years at two locations. IR did not provide statistically higher straw yield than PR (7.50 and 7.17 t.ha-1 respectively, p = 0.314),...

Drought directly and indirectly affects human society in a number of ways. In many regions of the world climate change will exasperate the effects of droughts, affect national economies more intensely. The main aim of this article was to catalogue and analyze the drought impacts in the 11 Central and South Eastern European states located in the Danube river basin. The identification of dry episodes was based on information from publicly available sources, namely, newspaper and journal articles that reported drought impacts. Information on drought impact occurrences was classified into one of five defined categories in which the drought impact report...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 939-946 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967040939

We estimated the genetic parameters of the most frequent reproductive and metabolic disorders as recorded on-line by 55 milk producers in Czech Holstein cows in the Diary of Diseases and Treatments. The dataset covered the period from July 2015 to May 2019. The coefficients of heritability were estimated for retained placenta (h2 = 0.01), metritis (h2 = 0.04), endometritis (h2 = 0.03), cystic ovary disease (h2 = 0.03), parturient paresis (h2 = 0.01), ketosis (h2 = 0.01) and displaced abomasum (h2 = 0.03). Positive genetic correlations different from 0 were estimated between...

Development and diversity is connected not only with GDP or GNI per capita level, but often with measurement of another socio-economic indicators as rate of unemployment, health and education fields or households equipment. The aim of this paper is, with the quantification of socio-economic indicators, to describe the development of regional diversification using cluster analysis at the regional level of selected Central European Countries after enlargement of European Union. The regions at NUTS 2 level of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia were selected for this purpose. There are 37 regions on the NUTS 2 level - eight in the...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 957-961 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967040957

At the 3rd and 5th month of lactation, using the ALOKA-250 ultrasonograph with a 3.5 MHz probe, the udder cistern size of the breed Improved Valachian (IV) and the crossbreed IV x Lacaune (IV x LC) was surveyed. Using the method from side 72 ewes were measured, in which the probe was placed in the inguinal-abdominal fold. Variance analysis was used to evaluate the obtained data (length, width and udder cistern area), taking into account the effect of the genotype, stage of lactation and lactation order. The average length, width and area of the left udder cistern (LUC) was 80.72 mm; 33.53 mm and 1907 mm2; for the right...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 973-979 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967040973

Modern methods for assessing the welfare of dairy cows are, among other things, often based on the evaluation of animal behaviour. In this regard, behaviour is classified as the most reliable, so-called animal-based indicator as its expression comes from the animal itself and indicates a measure in which it has adapted to the environment. Starting from the need to explore the state of welfare and the ability to demonstrate adequate behaviour in dairy farms in Serbia, the Welfare Quality® Assessment Protocol for Cattle (2009) was used in this study. The overall assessment of behaviour was carried out by analysing four main criteria: social, other...

An Assortment of Woody Plants Produced in the Manor of Nové Dvory at the Turn of the 18th and 19th Centuries: North American Taxa

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 981-992 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967040981

The noble family of Chotek began with the realization of extensive landscaping in their manor of Nové Dvory at the end of the 18th century. Lists of woody plants produced for these purposes and for sale were preserved from the years 1794, 1800 and 1814. 276 taxa of foreign woody plants in the current concept, permanently cultivated outdoors, have been identified in all three lists at least to the level of the species. 91 taxa come from North America, with 81 being the first documented place of their presence in the territory of the Czech Republic. All North American taxa are natural, none of them originated in culture.

The experimental group received feed mixture containing 7% milk thistle seed cakes. Control group received feed mixture without milk thistle seed cakes. After the 69th week of age, the laying hens in the experimental group reached a higher number of eggs and produced more egg mass compared to the control group. In the evaluation...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 1015-1023 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967041015

The article deals with the subject of the impact which road surfaces have onto cargo and the securing of cargo against shocks during road transport. The applicability of the key EN 12191-1:2010 standard is discussed, not only for common conditions, but also for specific transport conditions on low-quality road surfaces. Part of the article involves carrying out a transport experiment on a road paved with granite blocks and on a highway, from which data on the impact of shocks on cargo (acceleration coefficients values) were obtained. The data were statistically evaluated and compared to the normatively determined values of these acceleration coefficients....

The environment in which current universities operate is globalized and highly competitive, both nationally and internationally. To succeed in this environment, the issue of student satisfaction as a factor that determines the loyalty of students and is also an important indicator of the quality of a university is of prime interest to universities. Research interests of researchers who deal with university management then focus on identifying students' expectations and criteria of their satisfaction with universities. The objective of the research presented in the article was to identify the criteria of satisfaction with universities from the perspective...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 1061-1070 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967041061

Traditional methods of conducting consumer behavior do not provide enough detailed information and therefore the paper aimed to demonstrate the use of consumer neuroscience when examining a selected product policy tool by using biometric methods to identify emotions and subjective consumer preferences. Consumer neuroscience tools provide valuable information to decide on the success of the company in the future, so we consider it as essential to inform entrepreneurs and subjects alike about this modern way of studying consumer behavior. The subject of the research was the original logo of the selected company and the design of three new logo variants...

Dimo Dimov, Ivaylo Marinov

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2019, 67(4), 1099-1107 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201967041099

In recent years the dairy farming massively went from tied to free housing of dairy cows, and more widely in conditions of Bulgaria the semi open free-stall barns housing system is applied. One of the main factors associated with cow comfort in this housing system are the dimensions and design of the individual stalls. Indicators for stall comfort can be postures of cows when using the - standing with four or two legs in the stall, standing or lying diagonally, lying back in the stall, and more, these postures can also greatly guide us on the specific design problems that make stalls uncomfortable for the animals. In uncomfortable stalls cows spend...
