The influence of benzoic acid and formic acid (positive control) of ensilaged maize and pressed sugar beet pulp on quality fermentation processes was studied in a laboratory experiment. The effect of additive on the quality of fermentation process during maize ensiling was studied in a first model experiment. Preservatives such as formic acid and benzoic acid were added to ensiled maize at the concentration of 1L/t and 1 kg/t, respectively. When benzoic acid was used as a preservative, the pH and the N-NH3/ N total ratio decreased statistically (P

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2004, 52(2), 33-42 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200452020033
Wind erosion is caused by meteorological factors such as wind, precipitation and evaporation that influence the soil humidity. Erosive-climatological factor expresses wind and humidity conditions of particular landscape. This is an index of the influence of average soil surface humidity and average wind velocity on average soil erodibility by wind. On the basis of average wind velocity and Konček's humidity index, the values of the erosive-climatological factor for three chosen areas of Czech republic (Telč-Kostelní Myslová, Znojmo-Kuchařovice and Brno-Tuřany), where the pro-cesses of wind erosion could exist, were evaluated. Thus, the change of the...

Gardeners' practical experience and experimental work prove the affirmation that the used substrate is a very important base for the production of quality nursery products. It is important to emphasis the complexity and synergy of all factors influencing the ecosystem and there mutual relations. Physical, chemical and biological properties do not separately affect the growth and development of plants. In addition, the relations are not statical but differ in relation with other factors changes. This article is dealing with the possibility to use waste material from timber processing in cultivation substrates. The large scale use of such substrates...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2004, 52(2), 53-64 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200452020053
New method for evaluation of the ideal growth performance in pigs has been proved in the experimental stable room of MZLU in ŠZP Žabčice. This method is based on the biological interpretation of the exponential growth function of Gompertz. This solution defines the dynamic of the animal's phenotype by the body mass at the begin of the fattening (G0), by the animal's race standard body mass (Gli) which is equal to the value of the growth curve asymptote and by the value of the daily maximum body mass increase (dGmax) given by the genotype of the animal. This phenotype definition yields the possibility to define the exponential growth curve...

The submitted paper investigates possibilities of applying work methods of project management in marketing and in corporate logistics. All three disciplines can be considered fundamental methodological tools and managerial techniques. Their proper and well-considered incorporation and application both in the sense of institutionalization into the steering structure and apparatus and in instrumental terms, i.e. in the processes of direct management and in the processes of strategic, medium-term and operative planning consequently find their place and application in more generally comprehended corporate management. Each of these disciplines has naturally...

Presented work evaluates synergism of atmosphere corrosive action and material defects. These defects appear not only during particular technological process of connecting of structural material but also during cooling and up to hundreds hours afterwards. The multiplication of degradation impact of defects in joint welds and heat-affected zone caused by activity of atmosphere acidic medium is simulated in condensation chambers. The verification is realized by use of mechanical uniaxial tension loading and following fractographic and metalgraphic analysis. The metal plasticity is sufficient factor to eliminate thermal stress in tough metal (11 373)....

Pot trial was aimed to investigate an effect of fertilizer nitrogen on the content of vitamin C and offtake of certain macroelements by Brassica pekinensis. The experiment was realized in the years 2000 and 2001 in pots containing 10 kg of loamy brownsoil. Optimalization of NPK rates contributed to the increase of N, P, K, Mg and S offtake by the yield of final product in comparison with unfertilized control. The most marked increase offtake of nitrogen (by 14,6%) was obtained when fertilizer N was applied in the diveded form (80% N prior to seeding + 20% N in initial phase of heads formation, nitrogen applied as DAM 390). Positive effect of full NPK...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2004, 52(2), 129-136 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200452020129
Changes in the colostrum nutritive value were studied in dairy cows of the Czech Red Pied x Holstein (n = 10) from the 2nd to 72nd hour post partum. Of them, five and five animals were in the first and the second (or higher) lactation, respectively. Dry matter (DM) content ranged from 20.37 to 13.78% (mean value 15.61%). Within the first 12 and 72 hours after parturition, the shares of crude protein in DM were more than 60% (14.33 - 9.71%) and nearly 50% (6.34 - 4.06%; mean 5.61%), respectively. Milk fat made one quarter (2.29 - 5.16%; mean 3.72%) and lactose approximately 22% (2.74 - 3.93%; mean 3.43%) of DM content, respectively.

Fruits, as it has been proved by many archaeological discoveries, accompanied and still accompanies Man from the beginning of its existence. At first Man gathered fruits only occasionally in the nature. It's only after some time that he learned how to grow these plants and later how to breed them by some kind of empirical selection. However fruits have not only been used as alimentation, they also became a source of pleasure and beauty as well as an instrument making the environment healthier. Most of the fruit species cultivated in our country come from the European and Asian temperate zone. Residues of apples, pears, sweet and sour cherries, prunes,...

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2004, 52(2), 143-148 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200452020143
Livestock industry and organization for animal wellfare underlie the need for drug and nutrient delivery systems for ruminants that protect active ingredients from ruminal fermentation. To deliver drugs or nutrients directly to the small intestine for absorption, therapeutical systems must meet the safety and cost criteria. An effective post-ruminal delivery system is a prerequisite to implement some significant advances in animal nutrition and health in ruminants. Comparing with the products developed for human use, cost constraints have impeded the development of effective post-ruminal delivery systems and rumenstable products. This article outlines...

As mentioned earlier, it is not true that some bulbous species from the family Orchidaceae are able to survive only mycotrophically, i. e. without formation of stalk. Our observations, especially of Ophrys apifera, have demonstrated (in the Czech Republic) that the durability of adult plants is very short so that their numbers are fluctuating. The dying can be caused by several factors. Frost damages followed by rotting of underground parts (roots and bulbs) are relatively frequent. The leaf rosette, which is the most resistant, dies as the last, usually later in the spring of the following year. This means that the frost damage is often...
