Long term stationary field experiments with continuous spring barley were conducted in the maize-growing region on heavy gleic fluvisol from 1974 to 2002. Two variants of straw management (straw harvested and incorporated into soil), two variants of soil tillage (conventional plough tillage to 0.22 m, shallow disc tillage to 0.12-0.15 m) and three variants of fertilization (30, 60 and 90 kg. N ha-1) were studied. The results of organic matter balance in the examinated period according to particular methods were related to trends of real humus content which is presented in Cox in particular experiment variants. The examinated method by LEITHOLD et al. (1997), used in model Repro, answers most accurate in given conditions according to hypothesys defined in scientific literature. On the base of this result we can confirm significancy of the result. Other verification of method is appropriate for its using in real conditions in context of agricultural sustainability assesment.

Pietro Porcinai (1910 - 1986) was the Italy's most distinguished garden designer of the twentieth century. He was born in Settignano (Florence) and grew up in the ambience of Villa Gamberaia, where his father was a head gardener. He gained a diploma in agriculture in 1928 and left to the nothern Europe. He stopped in Germany where he worked a few years. In Belgium he met the new tendention of the "constructed garden" and in Germany was influenced by Fritz Enchke and Karl Foerster. He started to practise in 1931. Pietro Porcinai was one of the founders of IFLA (International Federation of Landscape Architects) in 1948 and two years later he founded with Raffaele Vico and Michele Bussini the Italian Association of Landscape Architects (now AIAPP). Porcinai saw his method as the creation of garden spaces with plants, rather than architecture. There is 1,318 projects in his archive - private gardens, public parks, motorways, urban spaces, which reveal that his deep understanding of modern design was never surrended. In 1957 Porcinai bought Villa Rondinelli on a Fiesole hillside where he worked and lived until his death in 1986.

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2004, 52(1), 103-112 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200452010103

The main aim of this research is to propose an evaluation method as a tool for measurement of sustainable development in agriculture. The research has three parts: 1) indication, 2) evaluation and 3) application. Three aggregate and a group of partial indicators were selected for ecological, economic and social dimension of agricultural system. As the aggregate indicators were proposed: Material and Energy Costs, Operating Income and Personal Costs. Two evaluation methods for calculation of relative sustainability for group of farms were proposed: The Method of Comparison of Indicator Values and The Method of Comparison of Weighted Interval Sustainability. Each method was tested in static and dynamic variant with using of financial data of 30 farms in the CR. Proposed Index of Weighted Interval Sustainability is applicable in farm management and in agricultural policy with aim to redistribute subsidies.

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2004, 52(1), 145-152 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200452010145

The performance of 10671 horses in 10911 sport competitions was used to estimate the breeding value of the population of the Czech warm-blooded horses using the Best Linear Unibased Prediction method. The sport performance was estimated on the basis of the number of bad points (penalties) in jumping competitions. We analysed 252781 sporting results in the period 1991 - 2002. The estimations encompassed the fixed effects of sex, age, level of the competition and random effects of the breeder, rider, competition and the permanent environment. We compared the original and innovated calculations of the estimate of the breeding value of sport horses in the Czech Republic. We then compiled a list of estimated breeding values for stallions having 30 or more offspring and we compared the estimated breeding values with the results of the official system of progeny testing for performance in the Czech Republic.

Forests owned by the state in the Czech Republic are managed by Forests of the Czech Republic, state enterprise with its headquarters in Hradec Králové. The private companies (established during the economic reform in 1992 and privatization in 1994) carry out silvicultural and logging activities in state forests on the basis of contracts. This study is focused on forest enterprises (contractors); the current situation of business environment in the Czech Republic was studied. There have been found 38 236 forestry entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic, and divided according to legal title, to numbers of employees onto groups on the basis of size and availability of their accounting data in the first part of the article.
The second part deals with data mining from accounting by a process known as a Financial statement analysis, which has to make an informed decision for owners or managers of the enterprise. Ratio analysis is regarded as the basic methodical instrument of financial analysis. Ratio analysis effectively summarizes multiple financial statement categories into few relative indices of performance and financial position. It is powerful method for managing with the complexity and volume data presented in financial statements. The relative indices converse financial statement categories into measures and it helps control for differences across companies and across time. This article contains chosen forestry contractors and describes the most useful economic indicators (ratios) and takes into account possible utilization in the sector generally.

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2004, 52(4), 111-118 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun200452040111

Water activity of multicomponent food mixture was analysed and measured. Samples of dry fermented sausages with two different starter cultures (Pediococcus pentosaceus + Staphylococcus carnosus and Staphylococcus carnosus + Staphylococcus xylosus + Lactobacillus farciminis) were tested during ripening (21 days) and storing (91 days). The basic raw materials were the same for all samples: lean beef meat, lean pork and pork fat in equal parts, nitrite salt mixture (2.5 %), and sugars (1.0 %). The method used for water activity tests was indirect manometric in a static environment. Moisture content of samples was measured using halogen dryer. The course of water activity and moisture content of sausages was variable during ripening and steady during storage. Diagrams showed gradual decrease of both parameters. Mathematical models of water activity and moisture content for storage of dry fermented sausages were developed and statistically verified. The influence of starter cultures was not significant.

New method for evaluation of the ideal growth performance in pigs has been proved in the experimental stable room of MZLU in ŠZP Žabčice. This method is based on the biological interpretation of the exponential growth function of Gompertz. This solution defines the dynamic of the animal's phenotype by the body mass at the begin of the fattening (G0), by the animal's race standard body mass (Gli) which is equal to the value of the growth curve asymptote and by the value of the daily maximum body mass increase (dGmax) given by the genotype of the animal. This phenotype definition yields the possibility to define the exponential growth curve of the animal from birth until to the body mass maturity by the equation in which (t) represents the age of the animal:
Gt = Gli.exp(-ln(Gli/G0).exp(-(e.dGmax/Gli).t)) [kg] (1)
The value of the real daily body mass increase is than estimated by the best approximation of the experimental body mass values by the growth curve defined in the equation (1). The distribution of animals in three groups, according to the calculated daily maximum body mass increase: the thin growing animas, by default growing animals and the most growing animals, demonstrated the dynamic of the relation between the value of the daily maximum body mass increase (dGmax) and the body mass of the animals (Gt). In animals aged 37 days the clear correlation between the daily maximum body mass increase and the body mass reached:
Y = 21.486x - 14.826 (R2 = 0.69); and Y = 28.609x2 - 45.21x + 23.868 (R2 = 0.70).
In animals of the age 150 days the correlation is a little bit looser:
Y = 54.316x +39.146 (R2 = 0.31); and Y = 8.203x2 + 35.192x + 50.241 (R2 = 0.31).
The presented original methodology for evaluation of the animal's individuality by means of the biological version of Gompertz exponential growth functions has been proved as a tool for direct evaluation of expression of the genotype body mass into its phenotype values, already during the experiment or the fattening process.
