Šárka Nedomová, Jaroslav Buchar, Jana Strnková

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2013, 61(3), 729-734 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201361030729

The deformation and fracture behaviour of Ostrich's eggs at the static compression has been investigated. The mechanical properties of egg to compression were determined in terms of average rupture force, specific deformation and rupture energy along X and Z axes. Exact description of the eggshell counter shape has been used for the verification of a common accepted theory of the compression of bodies of convex form. The eggshell strength seems to be an unique function of the static stiffness. The greatest amount of force required to break the eggs was required when eggs were loaded along the X axis and the least compression force was required along...

Šárka Nedomová, Jaroslav Buchar

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2013, 61(3), 735-742 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201361030735

Precise quantification of the profile of egg can provide a powerful tool for the analysis of egg shape for various biological problems. A new approach to the geometry of a Ostrich's egg profile is presented here using an analysing the egg's digital photo by edge detection techniques. The obtained points on the eggshell counter are fitted by the Fourier series. The obtained equations describing an egg profile have been used to calculate radii of curvature. The radii of the curvature at the important point of the egg profile (sharp end, blunt end and maximum thickness) are independent on the egg shape index. The exact values of the egg surface and the...
