In 2008 and 2009, studies made contents of cadmium and lead in the soil and their uptake by non-traditional plants were studied in a small-plot trial. At the same time also the effect of bio-algeen preparations on phytoextraction of heavy metals by these plants was investigated. Experimental plots were established on the reclaimed land after closing down mining operations in the town of Žacléř (North-East Bohemia) where a layer of sewage sludge from a wastewater treatment plant 0.6-0.8 m thick was subsequently applied. The locality is situated in the altitude of 612 m, its average annual temperature is about 6.8 °C and the mean annual precipitations are 857 mm.
Analyses revealed higher concentrations of heavy metals in the applied sewage sludge. The average concentrations of lead and cadmium were 180 mg.kg-1 and 6.89 mg.kg-1, respectively. The experiment had two variants: Variant 1 - sewage sludge without any other substances, and Variant 2 - sewage sludge + bio-algeen preparations (B. A. S-90 or B. A. Root Concentrate). To find the most suitable plant species for the phytoextraction of cadmium and lead, the following non-traditional plants were cultivated in both variants: fodder mallow (Malva verticillata L.), rye (Secale cereale L. var. multicaule METZG. ex ALEF.) and white sweet clover (Melilotus alba MEDIC.). The highest accumulation of cadmium and lead in the aboveground biomass was found out in rye, viz 14.89 mg.kg-1 DM and 14.89 mg.kg-1 DM of Cd and Pb, respectively., As compared with other plants under study, white sweet clover exhibited the significantly lowest capability to extract both heavy metals from soil (viz 0.22 and 3.20 mg.kg-1 DM of Cd and Pb, respectively). A positive effect of bio-algeen on phytoextraction of cadmium and lead was evident in all plants. The highest yield of aboveground biomass was recorded on the plot with white sweet clover with added alginate (496 g.m-2). Of plants under study, the fodder mallow seems to be the most suitable crop for the phytoextraction of both metals (0.35 and 5.87 mg.m-2 of Cd and Pb, respectively).

This article deals with analysis of the South Moravian region population economic activity and unemployment state and development. The analysis of the population economic activity and unemployment is a part of the demographic, social and economic population analysis. The unemployment is considered to be an unfavourable effect, but its low rate is a natural part of the market economy. The unemployment was from the general and registered unemployment rate in years 1995-2003 point of view evaluated. Some indicators of the South Moravian region were with the whole Czech Republic compared. The unemployment in the South Moravian region marked a negative development in mentioned period and in the year 2003 achieved value of 11.45%. The trend of the unemployment development was defined and also the seasonal character with the seasonal indexes was analysed. The highest unemployment was proved in winter months (January-March) and least in May and June. There was proved the high dependency rate among the number of vacancies, the number of applicants for one vacancy and unemployment rate.

Changes in amino acid profile of alfalfa silage preserved with chemical or biological additives were studied in fresh and wilted silage. The chemical additive was formic acid and the biological additive consisted of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, L. plantarum, L. brevis, L. buchneri and Pediococcus pentosaceus. Second cut alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) was harvested at the bloom stage, ensiled in mini silos (15 dm3) and fermented at 20-23 °C for 12 weeks. The dry matter of the fresh silage was 228 g.kg-1 and 281.6 g.kg-1 for the wilted before ensiling. The amino acid content was estimated by using an automatic amino acid analyzer AAA (INGOS Prague). The results of the experiments indicated that amino acid breakdown was inhibited by increased dry matter and the use of chemical and biological additive. Additionally, the content of amino acids was found to change in relation to the degree of wilting and formic acid treatment yielded the lowest amino acid breakdown. The amino acid breakdown was also reduced by biological preservative especially in the silage with a higher level of dry matter content.

Acta Univ. Agric. Silvic. Mendelianae Brun. 2010, 58(6), 641-652 | DOI: 10.11118/actaun201058060641

For investment decision making to be rational, the existence of investment criteria is required. In the theory of financial management, the effectiveness of investment is traditionally judged by the degree to which an investment proposal contributes to achieving the main financial goal of business, i.e. market value maximization of the firm.
So far, potential businesses for Private Equity and Venture Capital financing in the Czech Republic have not had information regarding investment criteria and their significance, when considered by investors, at their disposal, which is due to absence of relevant research results.
This article presents results of the research project whose aim is to establish which criteria are considered to perform an essential role in the selection of business proposals by firms investing Private Equity and Venture Capital in the Czech Republic as well as the most common reasons for rejecting the proposals. Based on practical experience of financing by Private Equity and Venture Capital, the research made it possible to identify the most significant criteria, namely characterization of management, market, product and the rate of investment capital appreciation. The results of the research are consequently compared with findings which were published in similar studies undertaken in the past (e.g. Tyebjee, Bruno, 1984; Fried, Hisrich, 1994; MacMillan et al., 1985, 1987; Muzyka et al., 1996; Eisele, 2002).
The research supports the thesis that, when considering business proposals, above-average weight is attached to criteria concerning the characterization of management, i.e. experience and competencies in all stages of business life cycle. Nevertheless, the fulfilment of the criteria is not sufficient for investors to evaluate a business proposal positively. They also place an emphasis on selected criteria related to market and product. By publishing empirical data, an important signal regarding up-to-date evaluative criteria and their weight is sent to those interested in financing by means of Private Equity/Venture Capital as well as investors in Private Equity and Venture Capital funds and to investment companies.

The aim of a growth model experiment in laboratory rats was to check the nutritive value of the set of newly bred spring barley lines with different grain characteristics. The followed set contained feed type hulless lines bred in the Agricultural Research Institute Kroměříž , Ltd. KM1771 (1), KM 1057 (2), food type hulless lines KM 2082 (3), KM 2092 (4), KM 2062 (5) and lines formed on the basis of crossing with food donors of a waxy endosperm type - hulless line Wabet x Washonubet (6), hulled line Wabet x Krona (7) and Wabet x Kompakt (8). The line Kompakt x Krona (9) and the malting variety Nordus were used as a control (10).
The best results of an average daily gain and feed conversion ratio (FCR) (9.19 g; 2.29) were achieved by feeding the line KM 1057 (2), conversely, the worst by feeding food barley of the waxy type (average daily gain in animals of experimental group 6 was only 8.01 g and FCR 2.54). This material also had the highest β-glucan content (7.1 %) out of the followed set. The lowest β-glucan content was detected in the sample 9 (3.88 %). Linear dependence between intake of β-glucans (x) and cholesterol content in rat's blood (y) was: y = -0.0591x + 3.8102, R2 = 0.4681. The found dependence was statistically highly significant (P

The study presents the results of research on the use of barley caryopses hardness for prediction of the malting quality. Grain hardness was determined by three methods: Particle size index (PSI), hardness according to Brabender (BRA) and grain milling energy (GME). The correlations among methods for determining the kernel hardness were estimated as well among selected technological traits of barley and malt and kernel hardness. Significant correlations were found among PSI values and Final attenuation of laboratory wort from malt (0.73*) a Glycidic extract (0.70*). Values of kernel hardness measured by BRA significantly correlated with Final attenuation of laboratory wort from malt (-0.80*) and Soluble nitrogen of malt (0.64*). Grain milling energy values were statistically significant correlated with Nitrogen content in malt (0.64*). The preliminary results confirmed the possibility to use kernel hardness for prediction of some malting quality traits. Further studies will be done on larger number of samples.

The enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) has a very important role in the biosynthetic pathway of vitamin E. Its activity influences the final level of tocols in plant tissues. Seven barley cultivars with different vitamin E level were grown under control conditions and activity of HPPD gene was measured four, eight and twelve days after pollination of ear tissues. It was found that activity of HPPD gene corresponded with vitamin E content detected in grains (r = 0.77*). The relationship between the gene activity for HPPD eight and twelve days after pollination and vitamin E content was also confirmed for analyzed cultivars grown in the field conditions (r = 0.85*).

The aim of the work was modification of superoxide dismutase enzyme (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1) activity analysis in barley grain and identical malts with using of the Ransod set. This set from company Randox were used for enzyme determination in blood samples. This method employs xanthine and xanthine oxidase to generate superoxide radicals, which react with tetrazolium chloride to form a red formazan dye. SOD is classified as natural antioxidants and enzyme plays a significant role at detoxication of products of molecular oxygen degradation. The largest rate of SOD occurs in embryo of barley grain. Its presence in barley grain and malt thus inhibits rancidity of grain during storage and undesirable beer flavour. The line Wabet x Washonubet (in grain-104,93 and malt 152,42 U/g dry matter) and the variety Annabell (104,65 a 147,21 U/g dry matter) had the highest activity of SOD in grain and malt of barley while the lowest activity was measured in the line KM 1910 (73,15 a 88,16 U/g dry matter) and variety Tolar (74,34 a 96,44 U/g dry matter).

Infestation of the barley grains by pathogens (fungi of the genus Fusarium) was studied on malting barley from Kroměříž and Žabčice in the Czech Republic. Most frequent species in year 2005 was: Alternaria, Cladosporium and Fusarium. Most frequent species of Fusarium were F. culmorum, F. graminearum and F. avenaceum. A statistically significant difference was discovered when we compared the number of fusarium-attacked ears of the untreated variants of both localities (higher attack in Žabčice).
